So today I would like to share my mamas quick and easy recipe of one of Puerto Rico’s favorite desserts. Even though theres many recipes of how to make vanilla flan I promise you this recipe will take no more than 10 minutes to prepare when you get the hang of it. My mama always found ways to simplify cooking time and she gave me this flan recipe a long time ago. Ive been doing it for a couple of years and everyone seems to love how Delicious it tastes. I promise you it won’t disappoint!
*Prep time 10min
*Bake Time 55-60 min at (350 degrees)
*Chill time 5-6 hrs or overnight
- (1) Can of evaporate milk 12 oz
- (1) Can of condensed milk 140z
- (3) Eggs
- (1/2) TBSP of Vanilla
Ingredients for the caramel
- (4) TBS of Sugar, more sugar= more caramel
- (Yeah, just that for the caramel I told you it was that simple 😉
For the flan you can blend everything using a blender or hand blender, I personally use a any of these options at times even a whisk. That being said lets begin, Pour the evaporate and condensed milk in a medium size bowl, add the eggs and vanilla.
After blending all the ingredients put aside and start working on the caramel.
In a small pan add the desired TBS of sugar and leave standing at medium heat until the sugar starts to melt. When the sugar starts caramelizing grab a spoon at start stirring until all the sugar is melted. *I highly recommend not letting the sugar get caramelize to a dark brown color because then it can taste bitter. Ones the sugar is completely caramelized cook for only 3 minutes until is a light brown or yellowish color.
Once the caramel is ready quickly pour on the 8-inch square glass baking dish (the caramel will hardened quickly and thats ok) Once the flan is baked you’ll see the caramel will liquify and will distribute it self equally.
Pour the flan mixture in the 8-inch square glass dish on top of that caramel. All thats left is doing a bain-marie (water bath) using a 5-quart (“11 x 15”) baking dish. Add some water *See pictures* and place the 8-inch square glass dish inside. Bake at 350 degrees for 55-60 minutes depending on the oven.
Let cool out of the oven then place on the fridge for 5-6hrs or overnight then LISTO!! READY TO EAT.
*An extra step to make it look beautiful, carefully turn the flan upside down on desired plate. Remember flan needs to be chilled and at room temperature.
Well creativemommies I hope you found this recipe simple and easy to follow along, please feel free to share with friends and family. BUEN PROVECHO! ENJOY!
